Center Mission and Rationale

  • Solving transport problems in semi-moist, porous media for improvement in Energy/Water Efficiency and Product Quality via novel technologies.
  • Solving transport problems using Research, Experimentation, Modeling, System simulation, Energy Conservation, Smart Sensors/Packaging, and Education.
  • CARD is a unique Center dedicated to assisting U.S. manufacturing industries to become more environmentally sustainable and improve product quality via advancing technology in heat/mass transfer processes, (e.g. drying, heating, cooling, freezing, dwatering, baking, etc).
  • Develop new engineering education programs to nurture innovation as a vital core competency for the next generation workforce.
  • CARD will help member industry partners:
    • lead in novel process improvement technology
    • capture a healthy share of the manufacturing market
    • generate and maintain new US jobs, and
    • assure a strong US economy and standard of living

Research program

Energy/Water Productivity

CARD has these objectives:

  • Reduce energy and water consumption in drying and related heat/mass transfer processes
  • Reduce energy footprint of companies
  • Improve product quality while drying faster
  • Train the next generation workforce for 21st century jobs

 

CARD is solving essentially fluid transport problems using Experimentation, Modeling, System Simulation, Smart Sensors, Energy Conservation, and next generation workforce Education.

Special Activities

CARD semi-annual IAB meeting is scheduled for May 16 and 17, 2017 at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in Champaign, IL.
